WIN’s August event covered a topic that will, at one point, affect all women in one way or another; yet, it’s a topic we don’t learn about in school, and might not hear about at the doctor’s office: menopause.

Our guest for the evening was the fabulous Dr. Gail Jackson, OB GYN to the stars, and pioneer in treatments for perimenopause and menopause. Dr. Gail lit up the room with her sense of humor, smile, and info all about menopause. We were so lucky to have her with us - she had to drive all the way from Santa Monica!

We started the evening with an ice breaker from WIN Board Member Raylene Meyerson. Each guest shared either her most notable menopause symptoms, or an item from her bucket list. It was an illuminating and humbling conversation listening to a room full of women talk about symptoms they’d experienced. The symptoms differed from person to person, from no symptoms at all, to hot flashes, joint pain, brain fog, and so much more. No two women at the table were experiencing menopause in the same way.

At the end of the starter conversation, Dr. Gail took center stage. She shared her story and how she got started as a doctor and later became an expert on perimenopause, menopause, and hormone balancing.

Dr. Gail was seeing a lot of patients in her medical practice who were in perimenopause and miserable. She hated feeling like there was nothing she could do to help them, especially after a prominent study had come out that linked synthetic hormones to cancer.

But Dr. Gail refused to accept that nothing could be done and her patients had no choice but to suffer. She saw how much even a tiny amount of testosterone helped her patients feel better, so she set out to find answers. She immersed herself in all the available research and found cutting-edge approaches to help her patients feel their best. And that’s exactly what she’s been doing ever since.

For 15 years Dr. Gail has been helping her patients feel their best using plant-based hormone replacement in the form of a pellet that goes under the skin. This, she believes, is the best, most effective way to get hormones into the body. Other forms of hormone replacement can be unpredictable and difficult to dose correctly.

“Our goal,” Dr. Gail said, “Is to get you to be optimal in your life, for how you want to feel, not just keeping you in normal ranges for your age!”

Though we’re hearing more about menopause in the news these days (thank you, Halle Berry!), there’s still more conversation to be had. When women get together and talk about their experiences and share what they’ve gone through, something magical happens. Information gets passed on, we learn from each other’s wisdom, and we lift each other up. We feel seen and we know we’re not alone.

That’s exactly what happened in August. A feeling of connection, of community, of coming together. We hope you can join us for an event soon so that you, too, can feel the sense of community and connection along with us.

If you’d like to learn more about Dr. Gail, check out her website: drgailjackson.com. She also has a book coming out very soon called Absolutely Fabulous. Check it out!

Hope to see you next month!
