May Event Recap: Speaker Cathy Gaertner Shared Stories that Brought Us Together

Three women standing and laughing in the evening sun.

Our May event took place on the evening of May 2nd, and it looked just a little bit different than our first event. The WIN Board is always working to fine tune and make adjustments as we go, which resulted in starting an hour later so that guests had time to end their work day and not feel rushed to get to our event. This seemed to work well for everyone and we will keep this time frame moving forward.

Our topic for the event was “Balancing Acts: Navigating Life in the Sandwich Generation.” To match the topic for the evening’s program, we enjoyed some sandwiches and snacks. Wine pairing is always a WIN staple.

Cathy Gaertner, owner of Above and Beyond Referral Service, was our guest speaker for the evening. Cathy specializes in helping families that are struggling to find the right care and solutions to help their aging parents. The “Sandwich Generation” are the people who are raising children (or guiding young adults) and at the same time are finding out that they need to take charge of the care of their aging parents. The struggle is real and affects many families in different ways.

Cathy shared stories and situations where she has been able to come to the rescue and help make very difficult situations and decisions a little easier for these families. Cathy loves her work and it shows. She is caring and invested in each client she works with. Her background and resources create a valuable service.

Cathy’s presentation turned into an interactive discussion as each one of us had our own story to tell. The empathy and support felt among the women gathered around the table was intense. It was a heavy subject and as professional women we all know how hard it is to raise a family while also running a business, let alone having to think about caring for our aging parents.  It’s a lot! It’s always encouraging to know we are not alone and that there are great resources like Above and Beyond Referral Service.

We are grateful for Cathy’s visit to Women Inspire Network. She will always be a resource and referral partner to WIN!
